A Day in the Lifestyle - August
Hello! And welcome to another beautiful day in our life! I'm so glad you could join us!
Morning Routine: As always, you can read my full morning routine here. Even with all the changes around here, it still looks pretty much the same, minus any references to my office, which is now located down the hall right here at home. So, no, I never do yoga in my office anymore. I do it in the living room.
I've been using this Microalgae Essence illuminating lotion from Skin Regimen in the mornings and I'm really liking it. Not sure I like it as much as Wrinkle Warrior, but it's decent so far and in looking at the ingredients, it's probably much safer than whatever is in Wrinkle Warrior... Anyway, I recommend giving it a try as a nice morning skin pick-me-up.
Breakfast: I made some blueberry muffins for a baby shower this last weekend, and they turned out quite well. So, I made some for our breakfast, as well!
I didn't eat this. I had a smoothie: a quarter cup of oatmeal, half a cup of greek yogurt, a tablespoon-ish of protein powder, a tablespoon of coconut flakes, and about a quarter cup of frozen mango. I also tossed in a dash of vanilla.
Tea: We have been drinking Strawberry Smile green tea.
Housekeeping: I'm redoing my printables for my weekly deep cleaning routines. When they are done, I will post them for downloading. If you are in need of a weekly cleaning routine and don't have time to create one, feel free to use mine.
Shopping: I picked up the September issues of Oprah and Martha Stewart this week. I love the cover of Breonna Taylor. I really encourage all of you to buy a copy and actually read the content.
I also discovered Color Street this week. I don't feel comfortable getting my nails done in the salon just yet, so I thought I would try this out. I had been planning to get a pink mani/pedi as soon as I could, so I ordered the Charleston Blush and I love it. I didn't do a very good job on my first try, so I'm not going to be sharing a picture of my nails this time, but I am really impressed with the product.
Lunch: Salads and leftovers usually make up most of our lunches around here. Today, I'm making a cabbage salad with chickpeas, sun-dried tomatoes, green olives, and cucumber. Throw in some onions, if you like them.
Snacks: Yesterday was National Sponge Cake Day! I used Paul Hollywood's recipe to make a traditional Victoria Sponge.
Supper: It's National Waffle Day! We celebrated with Banana Waffles and homemade vanilla syrup.
Family Time: We took in a Starbucks happy hour on Thursday. And then over the weekend, we celebrated Ysabel's birthday. I can't believe that my little girl is 18!!
Evening Routine: You can read my full evening routine here.
I've been using this Makeup Melt cleanser from Bliss that I picked up from Target. It's a little travel-sized one and I think I paid $3 for it. I usually use coconut oil to remove most of my make-up before washing with cleanser, so there isn't much make-up left to "melt," but it does a good job. I really like it, especially for $3.00!
Regarding my evening reading, this week I finished Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, as well as Maybe in Another Life, also by Jenkins Reid. I loved them both.
Daisy Jones and the Six is a bit of a deeper read. I loved it almost as much as I loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Almost. I really loved the way Ms. Jenkins Reid made references to Friends and Jerry Maguire in the acknowledgements. And the way she uses her social media platform to encourage other authors. And the way she actually has opinions about important issues. And the way..... I could really go on and on. Just read the books.
However, a heads up, Maybe in Another Life is a much lighter read. It's still cute and a bit thought-provoking, but for me, just didn't hit as hard as the other two.
(The pic is from my bookstagram, which always has a snack and a drink in all my book pics. In case you're wondering why there is a cider and a cake in the picture of the book...)
If you're looking for some book recommendations, you can always check out my TBR list for 2020. The books I've already read have ratings posted, so hopefully that's a little bit helpful.
The Last Word: My heart is heavy in writing this. While I'm talking about waffles and books and the wonderful weekend I spent with my family, my heart is with Jacob Blake and his family. Please do whatever feels right in your heart to support this family, but please do something. Some of us will send positive thoughts and prayers, some of us will send money, some of us will take to the streets and demand change. I support any and all of it. I just ask that you do something.
