Apple Butter

Ingredients:

  • 6 lbs. of apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla

Place the apples in the crock pot

Add remaining ingredients and stir well.

Cook on low for 10 hours.

When done, I recommend using an immersion blender to blend everything up, but I happen to know that a hand mixer can work work in a pinch.

Pour into pint-size jars, leaving an inch of headspace if you plan to can the apple butter. This made four pints for me. I processed mine in a water bath for 20 minutes, but if you don’t want to can it, just store it in the fridge. I always can mine, so I can’t say how long it will stay fresh in the fridge.
