A Day in the Lifestyle - March

Good morning! This is my sixth straight day in the house (minus a few errands), so I am incredibly grateful that you are joining me. As we all get through this time of self-isolation and social distancing, I am hoping to be of some help. If there are any posts you would like to see or questions you would like answered (regarding cooking, homemaking, family activities, other things that I actually know something about), let me know.

Morning Routine: Easing back into yoga this morning....this is not easy with a two-year-old. "What are you doing, Star?" "Ooooh." *tries to balance on arm. Falls on face.* Anyway, check out this great video Sarah Beth uploaded on Friday.

In choosing my OOTD, I've settled on - wait for it - leggings and a hoodie! Super surprised? These leggings from Pink are the best, though. Love love love them. And this old Iowa hoodie I found at a gas station on the way to Minnesota once.... It's my comfy look.

I threw my hair up in a messy bun because I'm not washing it today - eeww! Sorry, just being honest. However, I did manage to do my makeup. Today, I'm sharing a pressed powder recommendation. I recently switched from loose powder to pressed powder. In full disclosure, I spent the entire decade of the '90s with this Cover Girl pressed powder compact in the back pocket of my Guess jeans.

But somewhere along the last couple decades, I realized that maybe it was okay to expand my horizons just a little...

Anyway, I have recently been using a loose powder from Bare Minerals, which I liked fairly well, but probably won't buy again. If you prefer loose powder, though, you can check it out. I've actually been using Neutrogena Healthy Skin Pressed Powder and I like the result much better. I bought it as a cheaper backup, but I'm actually liking it pretty well. There is a pressed powder that will be coming up on sale during Ulta's 21 Days of Beauty that I'm really excited to try, but until then, this will work.

Breakfast: We had a pretty low key breakfast. Leftover Peanut Butter Banana Breakfast Cake and I also made some goat cheese toast for me.

Lunch: We had spinach salads topped with tomatoes, garbanzo beans, dried cranberries, walnuts, feta cheese, and a homemade vinegar and oil dressing (1:1 vinegar and oil, salt and pepper). They were so good.

Shopping: Obviously not going to the store, but I do have a husband who has a birthday coming up, so some online shopping needed to be done.

Snack: My cousin has requested Amish Friendship Bread. As you may know, this bread has to have a starter that, in the old days, you could only get if someone gave it to you. The bread takes 10 days to prepare. On the tenth day, you use one cup of the starter to make the bread and you divide the other three cups into three 1 cup servings, place in ziploc bags labeled with instructions and give out to friends. This used to be a really cool thing to do before the internet. It's also not quite as cool when social distancing is pretty important. Fortunately, you can get the starter recipe online these days. I found one over at Tastes of Lizzy T. It's a little hard to get yeast and flour right now, but we had a little on hand, so I got this going. I'm so excited. I'm a little sad that my cousin and I have to work out a no-contact way of delivering the bread when I would have really loved to make a fun coffee date out of it, but such are the times we are in.

Tea: Sipping on Lavender Spring tea over here. Of course, from the Tea Smith.

Dinner: Well, we were supposed to have homemade Mac and Cheese, but someone (yes, that was me) forgot to thaw the milk. Our milk went bad early and we planned to use some of our backup in the freezer (you can freeze milk - just take 1-2 inches out of the top because it will expand. Replace the cap and mark with an expiration date two months out) while we waited for a grocery delivery....which would have been a great plan had I actually taken it out of the freezer. So....the family had frozen pizza. Whoopsie. And I had whole grain toast with a cannellini bean spread. I just put a can of cannellini beans in the food processor (you can also used dried beans that you have cooked), added about 1/8 c. of olive oil, and then some garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Blend (process? Whatever - turn your food processor on) until completely combined into a mash. Spread on toast. I sprinkled mine with rosemary that just finished drying yesterday. Dan and the kids aren't huge fans, but I think it's great.

Evening Routine: Cleaned the kitchen, washed my face, forgot to do a face mask (I have a new one to try!), brushed my teeth, and finished my book - finally! I spent most of the evening reading after dinner to get it done and I was not disappointed. So good. I'm starting The Handmaids Tale now. Obviously, I have heard so much about this throughout the years, most recently since the Hulu series was released. Just never got around to reading it - until now! I'm really trying to stay on top of my reading challenge this year. So far, so good. Hey! You can follow me on Goodreads! (I'm not sure why I was so excited about that idea, but I guess I was...)

And that's a wrap, folks! As always, thank you for sharing our beautiful day with us. Love to all!
