A Day in the Lifestyle - October
Hello! And welcome to another beautiful day in our life! So glad you took the time to join us today!
It's been so long since I've had time to post on here that this is much more than a day in our life, but I'll do the best I can...
Morning Routine: You can read my full morning routine here. As always, my morning workout came from 8fit.com. I'm finally looking to branch out a little bit and maybe try something new, so if anyone has any suggestions, let me know! I still love this app. I'm just looking to see what else is out there!
I also wanted to recommend this amazing mascara. As you may know, mascara is one beauty product that I absolutely refuse to compromise on. I have taught my daughters three main rules for life. The first one, though completely true, is not appropriate to share here. The second one is NEVER EVER wear cheap mascara. EVER. EVER. I don't recommend many mascaras, but I'm really liking Tarte's Big Ego. It's similar to Too Faced's Better than Sex, but I actually like it better. It's not waterproof and it's not even really that smudge-proof, so don't rub your eyes. Or swim. But other than that, it looks great. LOVE IT.
Breakfast: We had Pumpkin Pecan Bread. This is one of Dan's favorites! It's also on the Buttercream Delight menu for October, if you'd like to try it!
Tea: We are really enjoying the new fall teas from the Tea Smith. This week, we brewed Apple Jack Festival, Almond Biscotti, and Almond Apple Delight.
Housekeeping: I put out a few little things for Halloween.
Shopping: I haven't been shopping much, but look at what my mother sent me! I love old school Pampered Chef. I like all the new stuff, too, but she sent classics (that I'm pretty sure she bought from me 20+ years ago).
Lunch: Salads. I like to throw extra nuts on my salad in the fall. Mostly pecans. Most of my salads lately are made of spinach, pesto, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese and olive oil. A little salt and pepper. And then topped with pecans or walnuts.
Snacks: I made baked pears the other day. Just set the oven at 375 and baked these Bartlett pears for 35 minutes. The family loved them. You could dress them up with brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, even ice cream, but we ate them just like this while they were still nice and warm.
We also stopped by the Asian market for some seaweed I needed for soup. While we were there, we grabbed an assortment of fun snacks to try!
Drinks: We made two of the best drinks I've ever had. The first was Malibu Cream. (You just mix Malibu rum and cream soda).
The other one was Malibu milk. Seriously, just chocolate milk and Malibu. So darn good. Oh my goodness.
Supper: We have had so many great things lately! Oh my! Let me share the some of them with you!
Apple Squash soup from Cait Johnson's cookbook, A Witch in the Kitchen (one of my old standbys).
And, of course, due to the cold weather, our favorite chili.
Family Time: This is why I try to post twice a week. There's so much to share when I only post once a month! Matthew and Joe both had birthdays and we enjoyed an excellent dinner at Stella's.
We went apple picking!
We also enjoyed seeing all the changes in the leaves. So beautiful.
Elie had her senior pictures.
We enjoyed a date day! With breakfast at Shirley's Diner, new books, and voting!
And a Halloween Spa Night!
Evening Routine: You can read my full evening routine here. I have been using this Clarifying Cleanser from Murad. I don't know how I ended up with this because I don't have acne, but I actually really like the cleanser, so it works.
As far as my evening reading goes, I've read quite a few books in the last month. I finished American Royals by Katharine McGee (4/5 stars). This is what I was reading last time I posted. I also read The Bhagavad Gita (5/5 stars), the Alice Network by Kate Quinn (5/5 stars), The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye (4/5 stars) and The Girl Who Lived Twice (4/5 stars) both by David Lagercrantz, The Lying Game by Ruth Ware (5/5 stars) and Harry's Trees by Jon Cohen (5/5 stars). Of these, my favorites were The Alice Network and Harry's Trees. Highly recommended. I just started Maud by Melanie J. Fishbane. And by "just started," I mean two paragraphs, so no opinion yet, but it is based on the life of L.M. Montgomery, who is one of my all-time favorite authors, so I'm hoping it will be enjoyable.
The Last Word: If you need something to watch, I've heard these are ones to check out on Netflix: Dolly Parton's Here I Am, Saturday Church, American Murder: The Family Next Door (this one we have actually watched and it creeped me the heck out) and Get Organized with the Home Edit (I am about to binge this one).
Also, if you're not super angry at the Braves for ruining their shot - once again! - you can check out the World Series. Braves, if you are reading this, what the actual heck is your problem???
And there you have it, my friends. Another wrap on a day (month?) in our life. Thank you so much for joining us!
